From Us To You

October 1, 2021

What is your go-to verse? The one you find yourself quoting the most? For us, we have a family verse, Deuteronomy 6:4-9: “Love the Lord your God…teach [these words] diligently to your children.” My personal verse (Tim) is Isaiah 40:31, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…” But the verse I find myself quoting the most to myself, my family, and those around me is Matthew 6:33: “But seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” It is my sincere hope that at the end of my life, no matter what my children saw me do for vocation or recreation, that they would see that my primary drive in life was the kingdom of God!

There is so much in this world that calls for our time and attention that it is easy to get distracted by the things of this world. Things that may be important or necessary, but that should not be our primary driver. So ask yourself today, what are you seeking first? What gets you up in the morning? What drives your day?

I know what you’re thinking… “It’s easy for you–you work in ministry!” True, but a large portion of my day is spent troubleshooting, problem solving, and doing the mundane things that we all do in our lives. I would encourage you to do your job today, no matter how mundane, with the goal in mind to seek first God’s kingdom. How do we do that? “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God,” (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Seeking first his kingdom,
