From Us to You – December 2025
Any Boy Scout worth his salt will be able to tell you immediately what the Boy Scout motto is…”Be Prepared.” Scouting founder Robert Baden-Powell was asked what he meant by that motto (which he came up with several years before founding the Scouts). When asked, “Prepared for what?” his reply was simple. “Why, for any old thing.” In his 1908 book, Scouting for Boys, he clarified “Be Prepared” means “you are always in a state of readiness in mind and body to do your duty.”
The month of December is usually a month of preparation. We spend hours, days, almost the whole month looking forward to December 25th. We sometimes refer to it as Advent. I would ask you the same question that Baden-Powell was asked. Prepared for what?
Besides the preparation for decorating, family gatherings, gifts, and the other things that make up this wonderful season, I hope you are taking the time for the spiritual aspect as well. We often think of Advent as a season of reflection, when we look back to the first coming of Jesus—and it should be! However, now that the Messiah has come the first time, Advent for us should also be a season of preparation for His second coming.
“Prepare the way of the Lord”—Isaiah’s ancient call—was echoed centuries later by John the Baptist and again in Hebrews 12:13, “Make straight paths for your feet… strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.” Scripture continually invites us to clear away whatever keeps our hearts from Him.
As we enter this season, what might be crowding out your joyful anticipation of the Lord’s presence? Don’t let anything stand in the way. Amid the busyness, we pray the music and messages on WRGN will help refocus your heart on the One we are truly preparing for.
Seeking the straight path,
