I recently received a call from a friend of mine concerned about the issues of the days we are living in… and the church’s response. These are indeed challenging (although by no means unprecedented) times. Ecclesiastes 1:9 is just as true now as it was when it was written thousands of years ago “…There is nothing new under the sun.” The problems are the same–the only thing that has changed is the speed and distance at which we can communicate, which makes them seem bigger and more prevalent.

The flip side is that we can use those same communication tools to bring the good news just as quickly! Everyone has, at their fingertips, the opportunity to share the message of hope that is offered in the Gospel. The question is, what are we doing with it? What are we passing on to others? Hope or despair? Faith or fear? Positive or negative? Blessings or curses? As believers in Jesus, the choice is ours!

I am by no means downplaying what we are facing worldwide, but I believe our calling is clear. It is stated simply in Scripture, as well as a song we play on WRGN by Danny Gokey called “Love God, Love People.” There’s a line in the song that says “Love is patient, love is kind, rescues hearts and changes lives…” This is the message that will change people, and all we have to do is communicate it in our actions and in our words!

Will you join me in offering that message of hope, that message of love, that message of salvation that will change lives? More and more, we are hearing from new and long time listeners about how much the music and messages here on WRGN are helping them through these challenging times. Let’s continue to fulfill the true mission of the church, going into all the world with the message of the Gospel!
