Here At The Studios(March 2010)

Except for the parking lot, snow surrounds WRGN’s building. What a winter! But the good news is that Spring is in the air.

While talking to Joanne Blose of Slatington, we learned that skiing is good near her, on Blue Mountain. “I like snow she said, but not the mess it makes afterward.” So much for winter talk! The topic on “Shirl and You” is now, robins. Have you seen any? We are taking reports on robin sightings and remembering that Spring is actually only a few days away here in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Sharon Lynn, Tunkhannock, sent a note of encouragement to the studios. She wrote, “You are truly God’s servants reaching so many for Him. Thank you so much for your ministry.”

Those listening to “Shirl and You,” have undoubtedly heard Eddie Kaminsky of Blakely, call in. We wonder if listeners think he sounds like Slyvester Stallone? The last time we spoke to him we talked about the bad rap fruitcake gets. He likes it and remembered A & P’s cake, he thought it was the best.

We said we wouldn’t talk about winter anymore, but Brian Harbison called the studios and was going skiing on Blue Mountain. Brian is in the Air Force, stationed in Hawaii. His home is in Reading, but while traveling in WRGN’s land, he heard the station and called for the first time.

It was disappointing news to hear that Daniel Chorba, Dallas, a faithful listener is considering a move to North Carolina. Why? More moderate temperatures there.

Our hats-are-off to Sally Brown, Shavertown. She does lots of walking or works out on her treadmill. She has been around for a good many years but hasn’t lost her zest for life. She is one of the encouraging callers you hear on “Shirl and You.”

Realtor Andrew Trevino, of Kingston, said that real estate sales may be bad news for the rest of the country, but not so for Wilkes Barre area. The reason? Homes are more reasonable here. Following the topic of the day, Andrew said he is a “hugger” but is not a fan of granola bars. Both he and Shirl agreed that we are “Soldiers of the Cross.”

Susan Hughes, of Wilkes Barre, had some tips on how to peel onions without crying. Cut onions on both ends, run under cold water while peeling or try this, put a piece of bread on both sides of the eye lids and hope no one comes knocking at your door.

Donna Durkovic, Lake Ariel, said she wasn’t familiar with Mark Harris’s music until she won one of his CD’s on “Shirl and You,” now he’s one of her favorites.

Fun, we have on WRGN as we remember: “A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.”-Proverbs 15:30.
