As we look back to the year 2009, the handprint of God is evident,” said WRGN station manager, Burl Updyke.

It was approximately a month following WRGN’s 2008 Shar-A-thon that the goal was met on December 16 and the year 2009 opened with that good news. Shar-A-Thon 2009’s goal is still to be met with $2267 still needed.

The moving of two translator frequencies was accomplished in early 2009 for both the Hazleton and Catawissa. A successful February’s Skate was conducted. The Radiogram showed many visitors and new Good News Library members. A first book sale was held for the library’s benefit.

March brought WRGN damage to its Scranton translator antenna knocking the translator off air temporarily. Letter month was a blessing as over 30 letter writers expressed their love and appreciation for WRGN. A very successful Mission Possible was conducted. The station’s Facebook site was established. The Yard Sale was bigger than ever and WRGN made an appearance at the Luzerne County Fair. WRGN’s Radio Dog was introduced there. October, “Clergy Appreciation Month,” saw many local pastors recognized on-air and awarded gifts.

New WIVH operators, Jonathan and Tiffany Bowman began their service there in October 2009.

The highlight of the year was the marking of WRGN‘s 25th anniversary at a banquet and the release of Shirl Updyke‘s new book, “Vision To Reality.”
